Environment
The protection of coastal and aquatic ecosystems and biodiversity are issues to which DIA R&D Division – Environment dedicates many resources. DIA focuses primarily on plastic and microplastic pollution that is affecting beaches, estuaries and underwater habitats.
Rivers and estuaries are the main transport pathway for plastic debris into the sea. Studies include the distribution of microplastic debris from estuaries to habitats, the adverse effects and impacts on flora and fauna, Blue Economy activities such as fisheries and aquaculture, and human health and safety.
To mitigate these impacts on ecosystems, DIA actively collaborates with government bodies, manufacturing companies specialized in the development of cutting edge equipment to address the challenges of environmental pollution.
In addition DIA promotes the protection of the environment through articles in magazines and initiatives, disseminating information and methods of behavior.
